Installed capacity of wind power generation at the end of 2012: 2,614 MW, 1,887 units
JWPA announces the installed capacity of wind power generation in Japan as of the end of December 2012(surveyed by JWPA) and the estimated data for FY 2012 (as of the end of March 2013). (The capacity data in FY 2011 was published on May 30, 2012 on PWEA web-site.)
Cumulative installed capacity of wind power generation at the end of December, 2012 = 2,614 MW, 1,887units on 431 wind farms
Newly installed capacity of wind power generation in 2012 = 78 MW, 32 units on 12 wind farms: Approximately 30% of the previous years
In 2007, the installed capacity of wind power generation decreased due to the influence of the revised Building Standard Law; then, installations recovered steadily in 2008 and 2009. In 2010, the subsidization program for newly constructed wind farms was terminated in consideration of the transition to feed- in- tariff (FIT), and installation dropped again in 2011.
In July 2012, FIT was introduced. However, due to the termination of the subsidization program in 2011 and limited grid access, it is expected that installation in FY 2012 will be continuously low.
The installed capacities by fiscal year, including the estimated data for FY2012, are listed below:
