JWPA presented its requests on the energy policy at the ninth session of the Environment and Renewable Energy Working Team of the Democratic Party of Japan.
JWPA explained the policies regarding the promotion of wind power generation at the ninth session of the Environment and Renewable Energy Working Team of the Democratic Party of Japan held on June 9, 2011.
Goal: Installed capacity of 50 GW by 2050 (supply more than 10% of electric power demand).
Policies:
1. Clarification of policy: Early establishment of mid- to long-term objectives
2. Assurance of economic feasibility: Guaranteed purchase at reasonable prices on a long-term basis = early establishment of FIT Laws
3. Provision of the necessary infrastructure: Strong measures for grid connections
4. Acceleration of construction and installation: Deregulation and easing of restrictions
5. Promotion of technical innovation: Implementation of research and development
Additionally, case studies in Spain, an advanced country in terms of wind power, were introduced.
Mr. Nobumori Otani, chairman of the working team, and many other members of the House of Representatives participated in the session. JPWA received questions about the potential of wind power generation, the application of storage batteries, and environmental assessments. Finally, the JPWA explained the current status and future scope of those issues.
